WaziyaThe
raven and wolf have always been companions according to both scientists
and lore. Raven leads wolf to potential food and after the wolf has eaten
there is plenty left for raven. One Partner provides the other with service
that multiplies the ability of both. To the Lakota, Wazi or Waziya, means
the old man of the north or the wizard. These myths tell of raven and
wolf as his companions. The north represents the teachings of wisdom and
knowledge. For me, children, because of their innocence are truly the
wisest, they are our biggest teachers. I have so named this painting Waziya.
